The University of North Carolina Wilmington School of Nursing has identified seven outcomes for nurses graduating from their program. They include:
1. Evaluate comprehensive individual and/or population centered care through an altruistic concern for the welfare of others while supporting autonomy and respecting human dignity.
2. Integrate professional values based on integrity, accountability and responsibility by engaging in clinical reasoning skills and lifelong learning.
3. Implement safe, quality patient care by adhering to moral, ethical, legal, and professional standards through the use of evidence-based practice.
4. Appraise patient health by meeting basic care needs within the appropriate cultural context, across the lifespan and in all healthcare settings.
5. Manage environments that support public and global health while integrating the knowledge of sciences, healthcare systems, policies and trends.
6. Appraise health maintenance of patients through trans-disciplinary management of risk reduction, disease prevention and illness management.
7. Demonstrate the competencies of a generalist nurse through role development, teamwork, collaboration, and leadership using the knowledge, skills and attitudes of professional nursing practice (nursing process, communication, documentation, technical skills and information and patient care technologies).

Upon the completion of the RN to BSN program, I feel that I have definitely achieved all seven outcomes. Several of the courses I took taught me how to evaluate both individual and population centered care. I completed many different projects in which I had to assess and develop a plan while also supporting autonomy and respecting the patients dignity. The projects include a family assessment, community assessment and cultural assessment. Completing these projects has helped me grow in my nursing profession because they exposed me to many different facets of health care and how to facilitate care based on the certain population I are working with. In my Expanding Roles in Professional Nursing Practice class I was asked to write a paper on my professional identify as a nurse and develop my personal nursing philosophy, this helped me to achieve the objective of integrating professional values and engaging in lifelong learning. After identifying my own values I feel I was able to include these in my work and apply them in my care of patients, which has helped me to grow in my nursing career. In my Heath Policy class we learned about the ethical and legal aspect of nursing. This has enabled me to practice nursing on a higher level because ethics and evidenced based practice nursing are just a few of the standards of professional nurses. In Transcultural Nursing and Gerontological Nursing I learned to be culturally competent and how to assess and address complex issues that may arise as patients age. This has helped me in my nursing profession because I am more culturally aware and sensitive. I have learned to work with several different populations of all ages. My Community Nurse course taught me to manage care throughout the community. I expanded my knowledge on community assistance and Obamacare which has enabled me to act as a resource for my patients who may require government assistance.
Throughout the completion of this program, I feel I have gained increasing knowledge about disease prevention and illness management. This helps me to not only educate my patients on health promotion and prevention, but also pick up on key findings during my assessments. The program has gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed in order to take on more of a leadership role as a nurse. Finally, it has left me with the skills I need in order to demonstrate professional nursing practice. I have learned leadership, communication and critical thinking skills all of which will take me further in my career as a professional nurse.
